ESPANOLA, New Mexico.
– NNMC’s Women’s Basketball has signed three new players to national letters of intent, for the 2010-2011 season.
These three new players include Karly Chavez (Magdalena, NM), Shannon Dez (Sheep Springs, NM), and Sarah Romero (Highlands, NM).
Chavez is a 5’4” guard from Magdalena High School. Chavez was a varsity letter winner for the Magdalena girls basketball program and contributed to much of its success over the past four years. “Karly will be a great addition to our women’s basketball program,” commented Jost. “Karly has good shooting range and is very quick on the court, which will help compliment our up-tempo style of offense.”
Shannon Dez is a 6’0” post player transferring to NNMC from Porterville Community College, where she averaged 5ppg and 4rpg as a freshman. Dez is a native of Sheep Springs, NM where she played high school basketball for Aztec High School. “Shannon comes to our program with collegiate experience. We will look to her to bring a dominant presence inside for us,” said Jost. “We are very excited to have Shannon join our program and feel she has the potential to accomplish many great things here at NNMC.”
Sarah Romero, a 5’8” guard from Highlands High School, comes to the Eagles women’s basketball program with years of basketball experience and a great passion for the game. Romero averaged 12 points per game, 5 rebounds per game, and 3 steals per game as a senior. She was awarded All-District honors her senior year. “Sarah has a tremendous passion for the game of basketball,” commented Jost, “and we will look to her to do great things on the court as a freshman next season. She has all the tools to excel both in the classroom and on the court at NNMC.”
“We are very proud about this group of young women student-athletes and bringing them to Northern to become apart of our basketball family,” said Jost. “Not only will they help continue to build our program in the direction we want to go, but they will positively represent our program in the classroom and be looked upon to be great ambassadors for Northern in the community.”
Jost is confident this 2010 recruiting class will compliment the 10 players that will be returning from the 2009-2010 squad, which will include, Espanola Valley natives Amberly Trujillo and Megan Martinez. Coming off a tough season, Eagles women’s basketball has a positive and optimistic outlook for the 2010-2011 season, as they look to achieve great success on the court next year.
