ESPANOLA, New Mexico. -
Northern New Mexico College women’s basketball program has signed Karina Mitchell out of Las Cruces, NM to a National Letter of Intent. Mitchell has spent the last 2 years at the New Mexico School for the Deaf.
“We are extremely excited to have Karina join our basketball family here at Northern. She is a bright and talented young lady who will contribute vastly to our program and campus,” stated head coach Christina Jost.
Mitchell has had a list of accomplishments throughout her prep years. Karina earned the honor of Valedictorian of her 2010 graduating class. She was a 2 time National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association All-American, 2 time Deaf Digest All-American, 2 time First All-District Team, the 2008-2009 New Mexico School for the Deaf Athlete of the Year, 2010 USA Deaf Basketball West All-Star and made the All-Tournament teams, twice, both at the Great Plains Schools for the Deaf Tourney and Evangelical Christian School Tourney.
Karina will look to pursue a degree in Human Services in the Social Sciences and plans to work with hearing impaired students in the future.

Her tremendous work ethic and determination are representative of her skilled play and high G.P.A. I look forward to watching her grow as a student-athlete on Northern’s campus and am excited to watch her become a strong positive advocate for the hearing impaired. Karina is a tremendous young woman who has a very bright future ahead of her in making differences in peoples’ lives.”
