ESPANOLA,
New Mexico. – Northern New Mexico College head men’s basketball coach Enzley Mitchell IV has announced the addition of Robert Lopez as assistant coach. Lopez comes to Northern from Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Illinois where he served as lead assistant from 2005-2007. Sauk Valley won 20 games in each season from 2005-2007. Prior to working at Sauk Valley, Coach Lopez was an assistant varsity and head JV basketball coach at South Cobb High School in Marietta, Georgia.
Lopez attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts and helped lead his team to a 25-5 record as their starting point guard. Coach Lopez is in his final semester working towards a master’s degree in sports administration from New Mexico Highlands University. Lopez has earned bachelors degree in criminology from St. Leo’s University and a master’s degree in forensic science from National University.
He resides in Espanola with his wife Tawney.
“I’m excited to have Robert join our family. He has a tremendous work ethic and will work to strengthen our defense and guard play,” Mitchell
said. Coach Lopez’s duties will include serving as recruiting coordinator, film exchange, practice coaching, community relations and handling administrative duties for the program.
