Northern Names New Men's Basketball Staff

ESPANOLA, New Mexico. ESPANOLA, New Mexico. Northern New Mexico College formally named Ryan Cordova, a native of Espanola as its interim head men's basketball coach for the 2010-11 season which kicks off in mid-October. His assistant coach is Zach Cole, also a native of Espanola, and a former sports star at Espanola Valley High School.

Cordova returns to Espanola from his family's construction business in Gallup, Blue Sky Builders, Inc. He was head boys basketball coach for Gallup High School for six years and took the Bengals to the state tournament on two occasions for the first time in 25 years. He also served on the staff of the semi-pro New Mexico Slam in Albuquerque for one year. (MORE)
 

Eagles To Host Basketball Camps

ESPANOLA, New Mexico. – 2010 Camp Dates have been announced. Register today! These camps sell out early! Northern New Mexico College will host a series of fundamental basketball camps presented by Christina Jost and Enzley Mitchell.

The camps will be held during June, July and August at the Espanola and El Rito campuses.

Student-Athletes Excel In The Classroom

ESPANOLA, New Mexico. – The Northern men’s and women’s basketball teams continued their trend of academic achievement in the classroom this spring. The Women’s Basketball team posted an outstanding 2.91 team Grade Point Average for the spring semester. The women’s program was led by freshman Estralla Padilla who achieved a 3.84 GPA for the spring semester.

The men’s basketball team posted an impressive 3.25 Grade Point Average for the spring semester. Five men’s basketball players achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better and one posted a nearly perfect average of 3.95. (MORE)
 

Eagles Sign Alvarado

ESPANOLA, New Mexico. – Northern New Mexico College head men’s basketball coach Enzley Mitchell has announced the signing of local standout Luis Alvarado for the 2010-11 season.

Luis Alvarado, a 6-4 guard from Espanola Valley High School has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Northern New Mexico College and is the fifth prep star to commit to Northern, joining Isaac Jeantete of Santa Fe, Cameron Nelson of Commerce, TX, Josh Sanchez of Albuquerque, and Kurtis Thomas from Santa Fe. Eagles Announce Recruiting Class

ESPANOLA, New Mexico. – The Northern New Mexico College Men’s Basketball program has received national letters of intent from 6-6 Forward Kurtis Thomas of Santa Fe NM, 6-7 Center Cameron Nelson of Commerce Texas, 6-7 Forward Josh Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM, 6-2 Guard Isaac Jeantete of Santa Fe, NM, and transfer Clarence Rivas, a 6-0 shooting guard from (El Paso, TX) University of the Southwest.

Eddie Simmons a 6-4 guard from Chicago (Crete-Monee HS) will return to Northern for the 2010-11 season. Simmons played for the Eagles in 2008-09.  (MORE)
