Host Sites Set For Basketball Championships

NNMCESPANOLA, N.M. - Northern New Mexico College and West Virginia Tech University have been selected as the host sites for the 2014-15 Association of Independent Institutions Conference's basketball championships.

NNMC will host the men's and women's Division II Tournament on Feb. 27-28, while WVTU will host the Division I tournament on March 6-8. (More)


NNMC Men Named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes

scholarPOINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - The National Association of the Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced Monday that 134 Division II men’s basketball student-athletes have been named 2013-14 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

NNMC Juniors, Gabriel Martinez and Ashton Johnson were two of the 134 total athletes honored during the 2014-2015 season. Martinez and Johnson become the first ever NNMC male athletes to receive this honor. (More)

Brito Named NAIA Honorable Mention All-American

britoPOINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2013-14 Division II Men’s Basketball All-America teams. The All-America Teams are selected by the NAIA All-America committee. Matthew Brito, Sr. gd from Northern New Mexico College was selected as an Honorable Mention All-American.

Brito led The Eagles of Northern New Mexico to its first ever Conference Title, where he was named Tournament MVP, and First Team All-Conference for the AII. He also led the Eagles to their first ever National Tournament appearance, where the Eagles fell to #1 Cardinal Stritch University.(More)

NNMC, Ashford In Same Men's DII Bracket

champsCLINTON - Conference champion Northern New Mexico and runner-up Ashford have been tagged in the same side of the bracket for the 23rd annual NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championships.

The 32-team, single elimination format will take place from March 12-18 at Keeler Gymnasium in Point Lookout, Mo., on the campus of College of the Ozarks. This venue serves as host for the 15th-straight year.

Northern New Mexico (16-15) gets the action started for the Association of Independent Institutions schools when they face top-seeded Cardinal Stritch (29-4) in a noon contest on Wednesday. The winner will play the Huntington (Ind.)-Southeastern (Fla.) winner on Friday, March 14 at 1:45 p.m.

quincyEspanola, NM —Northern New Mexico signs athletic freshman guard, Hasan Tucker. Tucker graduated in 2012 from Rincon High School (Tucson, AZ). Since then he has been playing for Team Sweeney, (a non-profit organization whose goal is to get athletes to compete at the collegiate level) competing against Arizona Junior Colleges. Tucker is a 6’1’’ 185 lbs. combo guard, who brings a lot of strength and athleticism at the guard position.
